The tour begins early in the morning with pickup from Chandigarh in a comfortable tempo traveller or taxi. The journey towards Rishikesh or Haridwar takes around 6-7 hours, with breakfast stops en route at local dhabas. On reaching, check into the hotel or guesthouse and relax. In the evening, witness the Ganga Aarti at Haridwar or Rishikesh, followed by dinner and an overnight stay. Taxi and tempo travellers are available for rent from Chandigarh, suitable for both small and large groups.
Day 2: Rishikesh / Haridwar to Govindghat (via Joshimath)
After an early breakfast, the journey continues by tempo traveller towards Govindghat, passing through scenic mountain routes. The distance is approximately 280 km and takes around 10-11 hours. Lunch can be arranged on the way at local restaurants. Upon reaching Govindghat in the evening, check into a guesthouse or dharamshala and prepare for the trek starting the next day. For long hilly drives, a tempo traveller is recommended, while taxis can be arranged for smaller groups.
Day 3: Govindghat to Ghangaria
The trek to Ghangaria begins after an early breakfast. The distance from Govindghat is around 14 km, and pilgrims can either walk or hire a pony or palanquin (palki) for assistance. On arrival, check into a guesthouse or lodge and rest. In the evening, take a short walk around Ghangaria, enjoy the mountain surroundings, have dinner, and stay overnight. Vehicles are not allowed beyond Govindghat, so trekking is the only option.
Day 4: Ghangaria to Hemkunt Sahib and Back
An early start around 3-4 AM is required to trek the 6 km uphill to Hemkunt Sahib. Pilgrims can have darshan and participate in prayers at this sacred site. After spending time at Hemkunt Sahib, trek back to Ghangaria. Rest in the evening and have an overnight stay at Ghangaria. This day involves high-altitude trekking, so it is advisable to carry warm clothing and stay hydrated.
Day 5: Ghangaria to Govindghat and Return Journey
After breakfast, trek back from Ghangaria to Govindghat. From there, a tempo traveller or taxi will pick you up to continue the journey towards Joshimath or Rishikesh. Stop for lunch en route and enjoy the scenic drive. Arrive at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. The vehicles rented from Govindghat onwards help pilgrims relax after the long trek.
Day 6: Return to Chandigarh
On the final day, after breakfast, start the journey back to Chandigarh by tempo traveller or taxi. Stop for lunch along the way and continue the scenic drive. Reach Chandigarh by late evening, marking the end of the pilgrimage tour. Tempo travellers are recommended for comfort on long journeys, especially for larger groups.
